About The University of Texas at El Paso:

The University of Texas at El Paso is America's leading Hispanic-serving university. Located at the westernmost tip of Texas, where three states and two countries converge along the Rio Grande, UTEP is a comprehensive public research university that is increasing access to excellent higher education. We advance the discovery of public value and positively impact the health, culture, education, and economy of the community we serve. Eighty-four percent of our students are Hispanic, and half of undergraduates are the first in their families to go to college. Deeply woven into the University's character are the distinctive strengths of the people whom we serve.  At UTEP, our 24,000 students have access to 169 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, and we are recognized as one of the best research universities in the country for connecting students with the community around them.

The UTEP College of Education enrolls more than 1,100 students in its undergraduate and post-baccalaureate teacher certification pathways and graduates 200-250 candidates/year.  The cornerstone of UTEP's teacher preparation program is the fully-scaled, year-long Miner Teacher Residency, where candidates spend a full year co-teaching with a carefully-selected and trained mentor teacher at a PK-12 campus in a partner school district.  With funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the El Paso Community Foundation, the UTEP teacher preparation program is expanding its research and evaluation operation, including research on the recently-launched El Paso Instructional Systems Workforce initiative focused on the adoption of high-quality curricular materials in partner school districts.
