Essential Functions<ul><li> Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</li><li> Perform mowing, trimming, irrigation, and arbor projects as directed by supervisor.</li><li> Plant and maintain landscaping areas (e.g., lawns, shrubs, flowers, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against soil erosion.</li><li> Trim trees &amp; shrubbery and remove weeds from landscaped and gravel areas.</li><li> Clear snow and ice as needed from water district parking lots, sidewalks, driveways, and stairs utilizing a variety of hand and power tools.</li><li> Respond to immediate safety, security, or operational concerns and determining appropriate action to be taken for resolution.</li><li> Paint indoor and outdoor structures, equipment, insulation, and other items or areas as directed by supervisor.</li><li> Transport a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to various water district sites. </li><li> Respond to occasional emergency call-out or scheduled overtime.</li><li> Continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.</li></ul>Other Duties<ul><li> Assist other shops as needed to complete maintenance tasks in a timely and quality manner.</li><li> Assist with door repair, ceiling tiles, signs, modular office systems, and sidewalk/concrete work. </li><li> Help with sustainability initiatives including water conservation, recycling, and sustainable turf management programs.</li><li> Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>QualificationsRequired Education &amp; Experience<ul><li> High School Degree or GED.</li><li> 6 months experience as a laborer or groundskeeper or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in grounds, mowing, and landscaping materials.</li><li> Valid driver's license.</li></ul>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<ul><li> Knowledgeable in landscape and grounds maintenance terminology.</li><li> Knowledgeable in the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.</li><li> Ability to use the following tools/equipment: spraying equipment; shovels; garden tools; handheld tools and power tools; lawn mowers; string trimmers; hedge trimmers; ladders and scaffolding; skid steers, small tractors, brush hogs; and light duty trucks with a snowplow and truck mounted salt spreader.</li><li> Cooperative and a team player.</li><li> Well organized and able to handle a wide variety of assignments.</li><li> Communicate well both orally and in writing.</li><li> Must pass post offer drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees.)</li><li> Ability to use a computer for data entry, timekeeping, and other basic functions.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li> 2 years’ experience with lawn irrigation maintenance including seasonal start up and winterization of lawn irrigation systems. Operation of lawn irrigation systems by adjusting controllers and setting zone timers in accordance with weather conditions. Make minor repairs to valves, heads, and piping, as required. Perform minor electrical work on irrigation systems as needed. </li><li> 2 years’ experience and knowledge in the use of lawn, landscaping, and tree care applications. </li><li> Experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture-related equipment such as tractors with power takeoff attachments, skid steers.</li><li> Possess a License from the State of Kansas for Fertilizer or Pesticide Application.</li></ul>Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
