Title: Coordinator of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs

Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs (VA) assists the Manager with the primary responsibility being to offer education and support services to two special student populations: Adult Learners and Veterans & Military-Affiliated Students. Coordinates and works as a liaison with college staff, outside agencies, and VSCC students who utilize the Tennessee Reconnect State Program, VA and Military Education Benefits, and federal funds for employment and training assistance provided by programs such as Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) ensuring that all services comply with Federal and State regulations. Ensures the College’s policies and procedures align with the mandates of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), Department of Defense, and Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Assists in developing and implementing programming designed to recruit and retain Adult Learner Students as they focus on reaching their educational, career, and personal goals. Promote initiatives that support Veteran Students in their transition from military to civilian life during their college career.

Job Duties:

Provide academic advising for Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated Students. Counsel and support Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated students regarding career, academic and personal matters that affect successful completion of desired degree/certificate programs. Manage and track Early Alerts for Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated Advisees. Serve as Tennessee Reconnect and Veterans Affairs Liaison for the office and the College. Serve as one of the primary School Certifying Officials for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Perform certification of benefits for Veterans and Military-Affiliated students in VA benefits certification system for accurate and timely payment of education benefits to both the students and the College while managing and accurately maintaining Veterans and Military-Affiliated student records in the VA benefits certification system. Complete annual training as mandated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to maintain the role as School Certifying Official for the College. Collect, prepare, and submit a compilation of information for the College’s annual catalog approval packet as mandated by THEC and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Work collaboratively with various offices on all Vol State campuses to establish best practices for assisting Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated students. Advise and serve as the contact person between students, faculty, and academic division deans for the Prior Learning Assessment credit for Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated Students. Serve as liaison with partnering agencies, third-party vendors, etc., and VSCC students who are in career programs supported by federal and state-funded programs. Collaborate and coordinate with case managers at partnering agencies for the sponsorship of participants/students to ensure timely and accurate submission of reports such as enrollment, class attendance, training costs, etc. Participate in the recruitment of Adult Learners through a variety of activities in coordination with staff in other offices from across the College. Assist in the coordination and leading of Information Sessions/Orientations, and other events to aid in the academic success and retention of Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated students. Develop and implement workshops, presentations, Veterans Day Events, etc. to educate and expand the campus community’s knowledge and understanding of the needs of Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Assist with social media, website, and other efforts to reach out to Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated students ensuring information is updated regularly. Support student membership and participation in the Returning Student and Vol State Veterans of America organizations. Manage and oversee Veteran Student Workers per the rules and regulations listed in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official Handbook. Ability and willingness to travel locally in and around the Middle Tennessee area, as needed, to visit Vol State regional campuses, attend professional development activities, engage in student recruitment, and collaborate with outside agencies, organizations, etc. Ability to alternate and/or work extended hours when necessary to accommodate the needs of the Adult Learners, Veterans, and Military-Affiliated special student populations. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with special student populations such as adult learners, international students, veteran, and military-affiliated students, etc.
Academic advising experience.
Experience working with State/Federal agencies and programs.
Knowledge of Tennessee Reconnect Program and/or Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) or similar programs.
Experience with Banner or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
Knowledge of and experience working with Enrollment Manager (VA Certification for Educational Benefits) System.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Exceptional customer relations and interpersonal skills.
Strong case management skills.
Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously with emphasis on accuracy and details.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Experience working with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint, etc.
Training and leadership skills.

Pay Rate: $47,276 - $59,095 annual salary depending on experience
